History: Wat Phra That Ha-Doung (Wiang Chedi Ha-Lung), according to legend, Queen Chom Thewi, ruler of Haripunchai, heard news from the Li people that there are five Lighting Balls there which appear very often. She came to see them by herself. One night, she saw for herself the light from the five Lighting Balls floating on the five piles of soil. So she inquired about the story and was informed that it was Phra Mea Dto That (The Water of washing hands) where Lord Buddha had washed, the water flowing through his five fingers onto the ground. Having heard this story she became faithful and commissioned the Chedi to be built covering all the five piles of soil and restored it to prosperity.

There is a tradition of worshiping the five relics. A religious ceremony is celebrated on every 20th of April annually indicating the place that was where the Buddha once came to the place with lights shining helping to bring wisdom to the people.
