Wat Maha Chedi Sri Wiang Chai
Li District วันที่ 28 ม.ค. 2562, 09:38

History: Wat Maha Chedi Sri Wiang Chai legend has it that before the Maha Chedi Sri Vieng Chai was built, the venerable monk Kruba Chaiya Wongsa found a Lord Buddha cow’s faeces in the period that he used to be a Bodhisattva’s cow. This cow’s faeces has now become a relic. Kruba Chaiyawongsa’s intention was to build a pagoda over this place. He was afraid that in time if he did not do anything, this sacred area would result in the villagers building houses on the site, so this temple was built for preserving the sacred place.

Wat Maha Chedi Sri Wiang Chai inside is distinguished by elegance. The  standout golden Chedi can be seen some distance from the temple entrance. Wat Maha Chedi Sri Wiang Chai Shivaji is shaped like a model of a Shwedagon Pagoda. It is built in the architecture of Lanna  style, which is created by laterite, a base of one rai width and a 64.39 meters in height .

Kruba Chaiya Wongsa was the originator of the design, construction was to build the Chedi for the five Buddhas. It is the first Buddhist Chedi of Phataragup for paying homage in Thailand and only the second place in the world.
